About this map

Integrated vapor transport is the water vapor the wind carries, added up through the depth of the atmosphere. Forecast Rivers computes it from ECMWF open data on the 0.25° grid, from the model surface to 300 hPa, for every step of every run.

This page draws the 51-member ensemble: the mean of the members, how much they disagree (the spread), and the share of members that reach 250, 500 and 750 kg/m/s. 250 is where atmospheric river conditions begin.

Compare puts another model or an earlier run over this one at the same valid time, as a swipe or a difference. Click the map for the series at that point through the run. The dashed lines are the rivers the pipeline found in the deterministic run, drawn along their axes with peak transport; the live globe follows each one through the forecast, and Research explains the detection.
