Rivers at this hour
About this map
Integrated vapor transport is the water vapor the wind carries, added up through the depth of the atmosphere. Forecast Rivers computes it from ECMWF open data on the 0.25° grid, from the model surface to 300 hPa, for every step of every run.
The colour table is Ryan Maue's vapor-transport table; others are in the colour-table menu under Map options. It turns from blue to green at 250 kg/m/s, where atmospheric river conditions begin, and the streamlines follow the transport.
Compare puts another model or an earlier run over this one at the same valid time, as a swipe or a difference. Click the map for the series at that point through the run. The dashed lines are the rivers the pipeline found in the deterministic run, drawn along their axes with peak transport; the live globe follows each one through the forecast, and Research explains the detection.
